Oman Set to Host Sixth Session of International Dates Council

Hosting the Sixth Session

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources announced that Oman will host the sixth session of the Council of Members of the International Dates Council next Sunday in Muscat.

The meeting, attended by representatives of several member states, will discuss issues related to developing the date palm and dates sector and strengthening international cooperation in this field.

Agenda and Cooperation Goals

Participants will review a range of administrative and technical matters, examine the council’s annual report and highlight key achievements from the previous period, as well as outline its plans, programmes and initiatives aimed at supporting and developing the date palm and dates sector at regional and international levels.

Discussions will also focus on ways to strengthen cooperation among member states and facilitate the exchange of expertise, knowledge, studies, research, technologies and promising practices in production, quality, processing, marketing and international trade, with the goal of enhancing the competitiveness of date products and expanding their presence in global markets.

The council will address its role in providing data and indicators on production, trade and markets, and will support member states in developing joint projects and building partnerships with the private sector, universities, research centres and relevant institutions; other priorities include developing national capacities and exchanging expertise in innovation, sustainability and value chains.

Membership and Standards Discussion

The meeting will review matters related to membership, which offers member states opportunities to participate in shaping policies, strategies and initiatives concerning the future of the date palm and dates sector.

Cooperation in standards, quality, food safety and access to international markets will also be on the agenda.
