Bahrain’s Wajba App Calls for Practical Steps to Cut Food Waste on World Food Day
Published By Arab Hub Post Staff
Bahrain’s surplus-food marketplace app Wajba is marking World Food Day today by urging food businesses and consumers across the kingdom to take practical steps to reduce avoidable food waste and make better use of suitable unsold food. Bahrain, a member of the Gulf Cooperation Council, continues to address food waste as part of broader regional sustainability efforts.
World Food Day Observance
Observed annually on 16 October, World Food Day promotes action towards more sustainable and resilient food systems.
Theme and Innovation
This year’s theme, ‘Innovate today. Nourish tomorrow’, highlights the role of practical innovation in improving access to food while protecting resources for future generations.
Impact and Partnerships
The platform has helped prevent more than 15,000 meals from going to waste and now works with 65 vendor partners across the kingdom.
Leadership Commentary
“World Food Day reminds us that innovation does not always need to be complicated,” said Wajba chief operating officer Nasser Kanoo.
“It can begin with a simple decision to make better use of food that has already been prepared and remains suitable for consumption.”
“For businesses, reducing waste can help recover value from products that might otherwise remain unsold, while consumers can access quality food at lower prices. When businesses and consumers both participate, small everyday decisions can contribute to a more responsible and sustainable food system in Bahrain.”
