Egypt Halts Sudan Truck Traffic After Fatal Market Shooting of Drivers

Truck Transit Halted
Egypt announced an indefinite suspension of truck traffic to Sudan through the Qustul land crossing after two Egyptian drivers were killed and a third was injured in a shooting at a market in southern Khartoum, the Sudanese capital, according to RT Arabic.
The Qustul Land Port authority, which operates under the General Authority for Land and Dry Ports within the Ministry of Transport, ordered that all trucks destined for the port be stopped and barred from boarding ferries to Sudan until new instructions are issued, citing “against the backdrop of security developments in Sudan’s Northern State”.
Passenger Traffic Exempt
The measure exempts passenger movement, allowing buses, private cars, microbuses and individual travelers to continue crossing the border without disruption.
Earlier Restrictions and Guidance
Prior to this, the Internal and International Land Transport Regulatory Authority had already barred Egyptian trucks from entering Sudan’s conflict zones, limiting commercial shipments to Wadi Halfa, Argeen, and the city of Dongola in order to protect drivers from security risks.
The authority stressed that drivers must follow the regulations governing transport inside Sudan, maintain the utmost caution and vigilance, and refrain from crossing beyond designated areas under any circumstances.
These instructions are based on directives issued by the Ministry of Transport on May 11, 2025, which mandated avoiding conflict zones and limiting cargo offloading to safe areas within Sudan’s Northern State.
The suspension of border crossings comes at a time when overland transport between Egypt and Sudan faces heightened security risks associated with the armed conflict, following an incident where two Egyptian drivers were killed and a third was injured during a shooting at a market south of Khartoum.
