Fire and Killing in Adré Camp
In eastern Chad, a young Sudanese refugee was killed on Sunday while a separate fire destroyed temporary shelters in the Adré camp, leaving displaced families without adequate accommodation.
According to refugees speaking with Radio Dabanga, Chadian police are continuing their investigation into the killing to identify those responsible.
PAGES, the Platform of Civil Associations for Sudanese Refugees in Adré camp, warned of increasing armed robberies, intimidation, attacks on civilians and thefts of property in public places and on roads.
In a statement viewed by Radio Dabanga, the platform called on Chad’s government, security and military authorities, together with humanitarian partners and civil society groups in the local governorate, to take urgent action to tackle the worsening security situation.
It further urged residents and refugees to stay alert and report any suspicious activity or movements to the security forces to safeguard lives and property.
Fire Incident and Shelter Losses
On Sunday, a separate large fire spread through the Adré refugee camp, destroying many temporary shelters that housed Sudanese refugees.
A refugee speaking to Radio Dabanga said that strong winds and the absence of fire engines in the area made the blaze worse.
According to the source, the temporary shelters that housed Sudanese refugees west of Adré Secondary School were destroyed, leaving the affected families displaced and exposed without shelter.
These events have increased insecurity and humanitarian pressure on Sudanese refugees in eastern Chad.

On Sunday evening, gunmen opened fire on a vehicle transporting traders to a weekly market east of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, killing one person and wounding seven.
Eyewitnesses speaking with Radio Dabanga said the gunmen stopped a commercial Nissan vehicle transporting traders from the Manwashi administrative unit in Mershing locality.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers fired on the vehicle near Hamada and Khor Abshe at approximately 8 p.m. on Sunday.
