PHCC Marks International Day of Older Persons with Home Healthcare Events Across Qatar

In Qatar, the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) observed the International Day of Older Persons, which falls on 1 October each year, by holding a series of awareness activities and events at all of its health centres under the slogan “Your Wisdom Gives Us Strength; Your Expertise Guides Us as We Shape the Future Together.”

The celebrations involved patients who receive home healthcare services, their families and caregivers during routine home visits, and included the distribution of symbolic gifts.

These activities reflected PHCC’s commitment to the health and quality of life of older persons and its dedication to raising awareness of their health and social needs, while highlighting the importance of integrated care that preserves dignity, supports independence and encourages active participation in society.

Awareness and Education Initiatives

The programme featured a range of educational and awareness‑raising sessions aimed at improving public understanding of age‑related conditions and ways to prevent them, drawing attention to the healthcare needs of older persons, promoting awareness of their rights and stressing the need for safe, comprehensive healthcare.

The events also introduced the various entities that provide services to this population and emphasised the importance of partnership and coordination among the different stakeholders involved in their care.

Home Healthcare Service Reach

PHCC affirmed that organising these activities across all its health centres demonstrates its commitment to expanding outreach and engaging older persons and their families throughout the country.

Home healthcare services are currently delivered through 25 health centres across Qatar and are available to eligible Qatari patients and citizens of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries who are aged 50 years and above, in line with the approved eligibility criteria for the service.

The home healthcare programme provides integrated care through a multidisciplinary team.
