Published By Regional Desk
Kuwait’s domestic workforce is heavily concentrated among a few nationalities, according to the latest figures from the Public Authority for Civil Information (PACI).
Nationality breakdown
The statistics indicate that Indians form the largest group, with 344,532 domestic workers, representing about 39 percent of the total. Sri Lankans follow with 157,901 workers, or 17.9 percent, while Filipinos account for 151,369 employees, equivalent to 17.1 percent. Bangladeshis make up the fourth largest contingent, numbering 106,942 workers, or 12.1 percent of the sector.
Concentration of the workforce
Together, these four nationalities comprise 760,744 domestic workers, which is approximately 86.1 percent of all domestic employees in Kuwait. This means that more than eight out of every ten domestic workers in the country belong to these groups. The PACI data also note that Indians alone constitute nearly four in every ten workers in the domestic sector.
Remaining workers
The remaining 13.9 percent of the domestic workforce, amounting to about 122,564 individuals, is spread across all other nationalities present in Kuwait.
