Qatar’s Safety Commitment
Qatar, a member of the Arab world, is committed to enhancing public awareness and promoting home safety measures to boost readiness and strengthen public safety, said Major-General Mohammed Jassim al-Sulaiti, Director-General of Public Security and Vice-Chairman of the Civil Defence Council.
Speaking on the occasion of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, observed each year on October 13, Major-General al-Sulaiti highlighted the essential part families have in establishing home safety routines and spreading knowledge of the steps required to avoid hazards and lessen their negative effects.
He urged the establishment of a firm prevention and safety culture, combined with proactive readiness to face dangers, and pointed out that this year’s International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, held under the theme “Resilience Starts at Home”, offers a chance to stress how families contribute to community safety and resilience.
Major-General al-Sulaiti also renewed Qatar’s backing for the objectives and priorities of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-30 on the international arena.
He stressed the need to boost global cooperation, exchange know-how, and develop capabilities to limit disaster risks and promote sustainable development.
Civil Defence Emphasis on Prevention
Major-General Hamad Othman al-Dehaimi, Director-General of the General Directorate of Civil Defence and a member of the Civil Defence Council, underlined the significance of prevention and advance preparation in dealing with emergencies and reducing their outcomes.
He observed that the occasion provides an opening to increase awareness of the actions required to create a community that is more prepared and resilient when confronted with hazards.
He added that the theme highlights the core role of families in nurturing a prevention and safety mindset and in spreading awareness of the key measures needed to tackle possible dangers.
Major-General al-Dehaimi noted that the Ministry of Interior, acting through its General Directorate of Civil Defence, has continuously worked to improve the prevention and safety framework and to upgrade preparedness and emergency-response abilities.
Partnerships and Collective Action
He also emphasized the value of building alliances across various sections of society, recognizing that reducing disaster risk calls for an all-hands-on-deck effort, and urged that responsible authorities cooperate closely with individuals and families, whose understanding of and dedication to safety standards are vital for strengthening community security and emergency readiness.
According to him, these joint initiatives reinforce community safety and improve its ability to react to emergencies swiftly and effectively.
