Bahrain Welcomes UN Condemnation of Houthi Attacks

Bahrain has welcomed the United Nations Security Council’s adoption of a presidential statement that strongly condemns the escalatory attacks carried out by the Houthi militia against Saudi Arabia.

Details of the Condemned Attacks and Legal Stance

The statement condemned attacks on civil aviation and energy infrastructure, highlighting a reckless strike on King Khalid International Airport that killed 14 people and left more than 300 injured, as well as strikes on other airports and Saudi Aramco facilities, and ongoing threats to the safety of commercial vessels in the Red Sea and Bab Al Mandab.

Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry said the Houthi attacks constitute flagrant violations of international humanitarian law, the United Nations Charter and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

The ministry extended sincere condolences to the Saudi government and people and to the families of the victims, and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

Support for Saudi Measures and Regional Stability

The ministry commended the Security Council’s expression of solidarity with Saudi Arabia against attacks aimed at civilians and civilian infrastructure, and its recognition of Saudi Arabia’s inherent right to self-defence under international law.

It also welcomed the council’s demand for an immediate end to Houthi attacks and military escalation.

Bahrain reiterated its full support for the steps taken by Saudi Arabia to protect its sovereignty, security and stability, stressing that Saudi security forms an integral part of Bahrain’s and the GCC’s security and is a fundamental pillar of regional stability.

Implementation of Resolutions and Yemen Settlement

The statement’s call for the full implementation of Resolution 2216 (2015) and subsequent resolutions was highlighted, together with the need for practical cooperation to prevent the Houthi militia from obtaining weapons, funding, training and technical assistance in line with the arms embargo.

Bahrain also reiterated its support for Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, and backed the efforts of the UN Special Envoy to reach a comprehensive political settlement.

Bahrain’s Security Council Commitment

As a member of the Security Council, Bahrain emphasized that it remains committed to working with fellow council members to ensure the full implementation of relevant resolutions, to bring an end to Houthi terrorist attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure, to deter threats to international navigation, and to hold the perpetrators and their supporters accountable.
