Jordan’s Independent Election Commission Joins Global Electoral Body

Jordan, represented by its Independent Election Commission (IEC), has formally become a member of the Association of World Election Bodies (A-WEB), a step that expands the country’s role in global electoral forums and opens new avenues for cooperation and expertise sharing with election authorities worldwide.

According to the IEC, the accession reflects the commission’s broader strategy to deepen international ties and learn from peer organisations.

The move situates Jordan alongside other Arab nations that are actively participating in international electoral networks, reinforcing regional engagement on democratic processes.

Leadership Remarks

IEC Board of Commissioners Chairman Musa Al-Maaytah addressed the association’s members and attendees, expressing his appreciation for the commission’s admission to A-WEB. He stressed that strengthening international cooperation and exchanging experiences and expertise in election management contributes to the development of electoral practices and consolidates the principles of integrity, transparency and participation.

About the Association of World Election Bodies

A-WEB is an international organisation dedicated to election management. It brings together more than 120 election management bodies as members and seeks to promote cooperation among electoral authorities, exchange knowledge, expertise and best practices, and support the development of institutional and technical capacities to improve electoral processes while strengthening their integrity and transparency.

Implications for Jordan’s Electoral System

The IEC stated that its membership in the association forms part of its effort to expand international partnerships, enhance communication with counterpart election management bodies and draw on global experiences, thereby supporting the development of Jordan’s own election management system.
