Iraq and Kuwait Restore Air Links After Security‑Driven Suspension

Resumption of Air Links
Iraq has officially reopened its air routes with Kuwait, according to IraqiNews.com. The flight corridors resumed at 2:00 p.m. Baghdad time on Thursday, ending a temporary suspension that was put in place because of regional security developments and rising geopolitical tensions.
Coordination and Oversight
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is overseeing the new operating arrangements. Technical discussions and official clearances involved Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. Aircraft must follow specific flight patterns and maintain predetermined heights, enabling regional air traffic controllers to keep close coordination and ensure safe separation of aircraft. The Iraqi Ministry of Transport said in a statement that the system will be introduced gradually, with the participating Gulf states continuously monitoring operations to respond quickly to any unexpected technical or operational problems.
Regional Impact and Monitoring
The prolonged conflict in the Middle East has disrupted aviation networks across the area. Before the current agreement, the ICAO‑backed framework was not yet operational, but it is now helping to restore essential transit paths. Regional aviation authorities continue to watch real‑time security risks closely.
