Kuwait’s 52‑Day Wasim Season Begins on October 15, Bringing Cooler Nights and Rainfall
Published By Regional Desk
Kuwait will enter the Wasim season on Thursday, October 15, signalling a shift toward more moderate daytime temperatures, cooler nights and the chance of seasonal rainfall, according to the Al-Ujairi Scientific Center. It follows the summer heat and precedes the cooler winter months typical of the Gulf region.
Astronomical Division into Four Phases
The center said the 52‑day season is divided into four astronomical phases — Al-Awaa, Al-Simak, Al-Ghafra and Al-Zubana — each lasting 13 days.
Climatic Changes Driven by Solar Movement
The gradual movement of the sun towards the south and the decreasing angle of its rays reduce daytime hot weather, paving the way for a gradual moderation in temperatures. The early phase of Wasim is typically characterised by mild days, colder nights, shorter daylight hours and continued bird migration.
Ecological Significance of Rainfall and Truffles
Rainfall is a defining feature of the season, helping wild plants germinate and restore vegetation across the region. Depending on rainfall conditions, Wasim is also associated with the emergence of truffles. The season marks an important seasonal transition in Kuwait, as temperatures begin to ease and conditions become more favourable for vegetation growth.
