Kuwait intensifies disaster risk reduction drive across local, regional and global fronts

Kuwait continues to strengthen its disaster risk reduction efforts at the local, regional and international levels, said Major General Talal Al‑Roumi, chief of the Kuwait Fire Force, on Tuesday.

National efforts and leadership

Speaking in a press statement issued to mark the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, Al‑Roumi said that, under the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al‑Ahmad Al‑Jaber Al‑Sabah, Kuwait attaches great importance to bolstering its disaster risk management system and raising readiness and preparedness to safeguard lives, property and national assets.

Local preparedness and coordination

He added that the country is continuously developing its preventive and operational capabilities domestically while improving coordination and integration among the relevant authorities.

Regional cooperation, humanitarian role and preventive focus

At the regional and international levels, Kuwait remains committed to strengthening cooperation and exchanging expertise with brotherly and friendly countries, especially the Gulf Cooperation Council member states, to enhance joint preparedness for emergencies and disasters. Al‑Roumi also noted that Kuwait continues its international humanitarian role in supporting disaster‑affected countries and communities and contributing to global disaster‑risk‑reduction initiatives. He stressed that disaster management is shifting from mere response to anticipating risks, strengthening prevention and boosting preparedness.

Future capabilities and technology

Al‑Roumi affirmed that the Kuwait Fire Force will keep developing its human and technical resources, employing modern technologies and reinforcing national and international partnerships to build an integrated system that ensures the highest levels of security and safety for society.
