Qatar Speaker Joins GCC Speakers Coordination Meeting

Qatar’s Speaker of the Shura Council, HE Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, participated on Thursday in the GCC coordination meeting of speakers from the legislative councils of the Gulf Cooperation Council states, held in Brussels. The meeting underscores Qatar’s role in aligning Gulf positions on issues of mutual interest with international partners.

Preparatory Discussions Ahead of European Parliament Engagement

The gathering focused on aligning Gulf positions and views on the agenda items for the forthcoming meeting with HE President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola, scheduled for Friday at the European Parliament headquarters in Brussels.

Discussions covered ways to deepen the strategic partnership between the GCC and the European Union and to expand parliamentary cooperation between the two sides.

Agenda Topics and Expected Outcomes

The meeting also examined a range of regional and international issues of mutual interest, prioritising the strengthening of economic and trade relations, ensuring security and stability in the Gulf, safeguarding freedom of maritime navigation, assessing international developments and their impact on global peace and security, and exploring the role of parliamentary diplomacy in fostering dialogue and understanding.

Participants reviewed the draft joint statement, anticipated the results of the upcoming meeting, and considered mechanisms for follow‑up and for enhancing parliamentary coordination and cooperation.

GCC‑European Parliamentary Committee Meets and Shura Council Representation

In parallel, the GCC‑European Parliamentary Committee convened on Thursday in Brussels, where it reviewed the topics slated for discussion between the GCC legislative speakers and the European Parliament president.

The committee exchanged views on coordinating perspectives and proposals concerning the meeting’s outcomes, and explored prospects for advancing its work and strengthening its role in monitoring joint parliamentary cooperation.

The Shura Council was represented at the committee meeting by Their Excellencies Mohammed bin Mahdi Al Ahbabi, Yousef bin Ali Al Khater, and Abdullah bin Nasser bin Turki Al Subaie, with Shura Council Secretary‑General HE Nayef bin Mohammed Al Mahmoud also in attendance.
