Agreement Signed at Doha Forum
Iraqi and Qatari business leaders gathered in Doha on October 7 for the Qatar‑Iraq Business Forum, where the chambers of commerce from both countries signed a cooperation agreement and announced plans to create a joint business council, according to IraqiNews.com.
The forum was organised by the Qatar Chamber and brought together members of the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce (FICC), government officials and private‑sector executives to explore investment opportunities in Iraq and discuss ways to strengthen bilateral economic ties.
Delegations and Participants
The Iraqi delegation was led by FICC President Amer Khalaf Alawi and included representatives of the International Chamber of Commerce in Iraq (ICC Iraq).
Chairman Mohsin Al‑Hamid and Secretary General Ahmed Al‑Yasiri spoke for the ICC Iraq contingent.
Additional participants comprised the Iraqi Prime Minister’s adviser on the Development Road and Railroads, the director general of the Private Sector Development Department at the Ministry of Trade, Iraqi business executives and Iraq’s Ambassador to Qatar, Mohammed Jaafar Al‑Sadr.
Development Road Project Discussion
Discussions at the forum covered bilateral trade and Iraq’s Development Road project, a proposed transportation and logistics corridor designed to connect the Gulf with Turkish and European markets via Iraq.
Regional Context and Outlook
The forum reflects a growing interest in deepening Iraq‑Qatar economic relations, as Baghdad seeks to attract Gulf investment, diversify its economy and expand private‑sector activity.
Officials said the planned Iraq‑Qatar Business Council could help turn the dialogue into lasting business partnerships.
