Kuwaiti Academic Dr Abdullah Hassan Joins ICN Congress Scientific Committee

Selection and Congress Details

The Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET) said in a statement issued on Thursday that the International Council of Nurses (ICN) has selected one of its academics, Dr Abdullah Hassan, to represent the authority on the scientific committee of the council’s next congress. PAAET added that the selection reflects the standing of Kuwaiti academics and their growing presence in international scientific forums.

The authority described Hassan’s appointment, alongside leading nursing experts from around the world, as an academic and professional achievement for PAAET and for its College of Nursing in particular. PAAET will take part in the ICN Congress 2027, to be held in Taiwan in July next year under the theme “Empowering nurses: New horizons for transforming nursing care and public health”.

Role of the Scientific Committee

According to the statement, the congress’s scientific committee plays a central role in preparing and developing its scientific content. It sets topics that reflect the latest developments in nursing worldwide, evaluates and selects speakers and scientific posters, and proposes initiatives to enrich participants’ experience.

PAAET said the appointment offers an opportunity to strengthen scientific cooperation and share expertise with international specialists. It also allows the authority to develop research partnerships and joint initiatives that improve nursing practice, shape health policy and support evidence‑based research, thereby raising the quality of nursing care locally and internationally.

Hassan’s Expertise and Responsibilities

The statement notes that Dr Abdullah Hassan specializes in community health nursing and public health, with research focusing on chronic non‑communicable diseases among adolescents and young people, their early detection and reducing risk factors, aiming to improve prevention and healthcare for this age group.

As a committee member, Hassan will help judge and evaluate scientific posters, nominate speakers and experts, and help manage and coordinate scientific sessions during ICN congresses.
