Kuwait’s Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs Dr Amthal Al-Huwailah reviewed on Thursday the latest organisational, technical and logistical preparations for the country’s hosting of the first Social Work Conference for Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, scheduled for 9‑10 November.
The GCC comprises Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
Preparations Underway
Following her chairing of a meeting of the Higher Committee for the Preparation and Organization of the Conference, Al-Huwailah issued a press statement in which she said, “discussions focused on the progress of the specialized committees, arrangements for receiving participating Gulf delegations and coordination with relevant authorities to finalize all conference requirements.”
Conference Theme and Goals
Al-Huwailah said, “the conference, to be held under the theme “Social Work: Quality and Equity of Services in the Digital Age,” requires intensified efforts, stronger coordination among committees and working groups, and strict adherence to established timelines.”
She stressed the importance of completing preparations and paying close attention to organizational details to ensure the event reflects Kuwait’s standing and its role in supporting joint Gulf social work initiatives.
She noted, “the conference would provide a platform for GCC countries to exchange expertise and experiences, explore ways to develop social services, improve their quality and ensure equitable access, while leveraging digital transformation to strengthen social welfare systems.”
Regional Significance
Al-Huwailah added that Kuwait’s hosting of the conference reflects its commitment to enhancing integration and cooperation among GCC countries and supporting joint initiatives to develop social services in line with contemporary changes and challenges.
She added, “these efforts would contribute to advancing sustainable social development across the Gulf region.”
