Kuwait Demonstrates Cardiac Expertise with Live‑Broadcast Aortic Valve Replacement
Published By Arab Hub Post Staff
Procedure Overview
Kuwait’s Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital performed a catheter‑based aortic valve replacement on a patient in his seventies, demonstrating the country’s expertise in advanced cardiac interventions.
Broadcast and Medical Details
The intervention was broadcast live via satellite to the Gulf Heart Valve Conference in Dubai, allowing specialists to observe the procedure.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Health on Thursday, the patient had severe aortic valve narrowing that had caused repeated hospital admissions because of fluid accumulation in the lungs, commonly referred to as water in the lungs.
The procedure was carried out under local anesthesia by a team led by Dr. Ali Saheb and Dr. Mohammed Al-Turki, who implanted the Navitor Vision valve, a device designed for catheter‑based treatment of aortic stenosis.
The catheter‑based approach allows the valve to be implanted through an interventional procedure rather than conventional open‑heart valve replacement surgery.
Outcome and Institutional Impact
Following the intervention, the patient’s condition improved and he was discharged in good health within 48 hours, as confirmed by the ministry.
The Ministry of Health noted that Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital continues to strengthen its capabilities in complex catheter‑based cardiac interventions through specialised care and participation in regional conferences.
Organisers of the Gulf Heart Valve Conference, together with participating experts from the United States, praised the experience and competence of Kuwait’s doctors, the ministry said.
The successful procedure underlines the hospital’s role in advancing specialised cardiac care in Kuwait while contributing to the exchange of medical knowledge with regional and international specialists.
