General Security Seizes Explosives, Weapons in Tripoli Raids
Published By Regional Desk
Lebanon’s General Security has confiscated explosives and weapons during a series of raids in the northern city of Tripoli, the agency announced.
Raids and Seizures
Acting under the oversight of the competent judiciary and as part of proactive security measures, the General Directorate of General Security carried out multiple operations in Tripoli. The raids led to the seizure of quantities of explosives and detonators used in manufacturing improvised explosive devices (IEDs), along with large amounts of military weapons, ammunition and grenades, according to a statement from the directorate.
The arms were found inside the home of a Lebanese national identified only by the initials R.S. in the Bab al-Raml area, the statement added.
Suspects and Arrests
MTV reported that R.S. is suspected of having links to the Daesh organisation. In a separate raid on the home of another Lebanese national, A.A., in the same Bab al-Raml district, authorities seized a drone. General Security also arrested Lebanese national T.H. in Bab al-Raml for his connections to the previously detained individuals, the statement said.
The confiscated materials have been impounded in line with instructions from the competent judicial authorities, the directorate noted.
Ongoing Investigations
Investigations continue under judicial supervision to uncover all circumstances of the case and to arrest remaining accomplices, General Security stated. The General Directorate of General Security reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining proactive operations to ensure citizen security and safety and to safeguard stability, it added.
