Opening and Location
According to the report, Morocco opened a museum dedicated to Jewish heritage in Fez on Monday. The museum is situated in the city’s historic Mellah, recognised as one of the country’s oldest Jewish quarters.
Collections and Exhibition Space
The Moroccan Jewish Culture Museum displays religious objects, archaeological finds, artwork, manuscripts and historical archives. It occupies more than 1,700 square metres, with roughly 1,200 square metres devoted to exhibition halls. Its collections explore Jewish traditions, religious practices, crafts and the long-standing interaction between Jewish and Muslim communities.
Project Background
King Mohammed VI launched the initiative in April 2019 as part of a wider programme to restore and preserve Fez’s historic medina. The site was donated by the Jewish community of Fez, while Moroccan Jewish heritage groups contributed to the development. Construction and fitting-out work was completed in March 2023.
Regional Context
The opening adds to ongoing efforts to safeguard Morocco’s diverse religious and cultural heritage. The museum is located near the Al-Batha Museum of Islamic Arts, which opened in 2025 after the restoration of a historic palace.
