FIFA inspectors to visit six Moroccan cities in 2030 World Cup venue checks
Published By Regional Desk
Morocco is one of the three countries whose proposed 2030 World Cup venues will be assessed by FIFA during inspection visits scheduled for November and December, as preparations for the tournament enter a decisive stage.
The international football governing body said on Tuesday that its inspection teams will visit candidate stadiums and host cities in Morocco, Spain and Portugal to check whether they satisfy the technical and organisational requirements for World Cup matches.
Six Moroccan cities on the inspection list
In Morocco, the inspections will cover Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier, Marrakech, Agadir and Fes.
The visits come as Morocco and Spain compete to host the final, with FIFA yet to announce which stadium will stage the tournament’s biggest match.
Venues in Spain and Portugal also under review
Portugal’s proposed venues in Lisbon and Porto will also be inspected, along with Spanish candidate cities including Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Bilbao, San Sebastián, Zaragoza and Las Palmas.
FIFA said additional venues could be added to the inspection programme as the evaluation continues.
Final decisions still pending
The final selection of stadiums and host cities remains outstanding, while decisions on match allocations and the categories of fixtures assigned to each venue will be made once the tournament schedule is finalised.
The 2030 World Cup will be jointly hosted by Morocco, Spain and Portugal, with three centenary celebration matches to be played in Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay to mark 100 years since the inaugural tournament in Uruguay in 1930.
