Elderly Man Imprisoned for Fatal Knife Attack on Sisters in Khénifra

Arrest and Detention

In Morocco, a 65-year-old man was sent to prison on Monday after a knife attack on two sisters in Khénifra left one dead and the other seriously injured, according to the prosecutor general at the Beni Mellal Court of Appeal. He was placed in Beni Mellal’s local prison.

Victims’ Condition

One of the victims, a 47-year-old woman, died on Oct. 8 at a clinic in Fez after weeks of treatment for her injuries. The surviving sister’s condition has since stabilised, according to available information.

Background of the Dispute

The assault followed a dispute between the sisters and the suspect, who was renting a house in Khénifra owned by their family. The argument escalated into a knife attack.

Calls for Justice

The case drew criticism from local residents and human rights groups, especially after the suspect remained at Khénifra’s provincial hospital following his arrest, reportedly due to an illness. The Khénifra branch of the Moroccan Association for Human Rights called for an impartial investigation, equal application of the law, protection for the surviving sister and her family, and accountability for the attack.
