Sidra Medicine to host Qatar Pediatric Endocrine and Diabetes Conference 2026

Doha, Qatar – Sidra Medicine, a member of Qatar Foundation, is set to organise the Qatar Pediatric Endocrine and Diabetes Conference (QPED 2026) on 27 and 28 November 2026. The two-day event will bring together healthcare professionals to discuss the latest strategies for preventing, diagnosing and treating diabetes and endocrine disorders in children and adolescents.

Conference Theme and Focus Areas

Running under the banner “Advancing Excellence in Pediatric Endocrine and Diabetes Care,” QPED 2026 will spotlight developments that are reshaping the management of paediatric endocrine conditions. Key areas include diabetes technologies, earlier intervention for Type 1 diabetes, novel approaches to childhood obesity, precision medicine and emerging therapies for rare endocrine disorders.

Dr. Khalid Hussain, Senior Attending Physician at Sidra Medicine and Conference Chair of QPED 2026, noted that paediatric endocrinology is progressing quickly, especially in diabetes technology, precision medicine and emerging therapies. He pointed to a significant shift in Type 1 diabetes care, with increasing emphasis on identifying at-risk children and considering interventions earlier in the disease course. “QPED 2026 will provide a platform for healthcare professionals to discuss how these advances can be translated into better and more personalised care for children and their families,” Hussain said.

Scientific Programme Highlights

The scientific agenda will cover Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, childhood obesity, growth and puberty disorders, thyroid conditions, endocrine emergencies and rare endocrine disorders. A dedicated session on the future of Type 1 diabetes will explore screening and prevention, immune-modulating therapies and cell-based treatments such as islet transplantation and stem cell approaches. The programme will also emphasise continuous glucose monitoring, insulin pumps and hybrid closed-loop systems and their expanding role in managing childhood diabetes.

Childhood obesity will receive particular attention at QPED 2026. Experts will discuss the recognition, evaluation and management of obesity in children, along with emerging treatment options. Updates on new therapies for monogenic obesity, achondroplasia and growth disorders will also be featured.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration and Workshops

Dr. Ahmed Al Hammadi, Chair of Pediatric Medicine at Sidra Medicine, stressed that children with diabetes and endocrine disorders often require care from multidisciplinary teams. “Bringing together physicians, nurses, diabetes educators, dietitians, researchers and allied health professionals allows us to share knowledge across specialties and strengthen the way we manage these complex conditions. Our goal is ultimately to improve outcomes and quality of life for children and young people,” Al Hammadi said.

In addition to expert-led scientific sessions and case-based discussions, QPED 2026 will include practical workshops on diabetes technology, insulin therapy and carbohydrate counting, as well as healthy lifestyle and behavioural approaches to obesity management. The conference is designed for paediatric endocrinologists, diabetologists, paediatricians, primary care and family medicine physicians, nurses, diabetes educators, dietitians, pharmacists, allied health professionals, researchers and healthcare students.

Qatar has become a regional hub for specialised medical conferences, reflecting its investment in healthcare infrastructure and professional development.
