Qatar Charity's Rwanda Health Initiative Assists Nearly 15,000 People

According to Qatar Charity, the organisation has carried out a healthcare programme in Rwanda that reached 14,904 individuals over a twelve‑month span.

The initiative forms part of Qatar’s broader humanitarian outreach to African countries.

Project Overview and Funding

Qatar Charity implemented the comprehensive healthcare project in cooperation with Rwanda’s government authorities and institutions.

Funding came from Qatar’s Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs.

The scheme covers beneficiaries’ contributions to Rwanda’s community-based health insurance, enabling eligible families to obtain essential and specialised healthcare without facing financial hardship.

By removing cost barriers, the project aims to improve health and well-being, raise quality of life and strengthen household stability for the participants.

Official Oversight and Selection

Godfrey Kayigana, Director General of Social Affairs and Community Development at Rwanda’s Ministry of Local Government, said during follow-up visits aimed at monitoring implementation and strengthening cooperation with official partners that the project has delivered humanitarian impact and expanded access to essential healthcare services for vulnerable families.

He thanked Qatar Charity for managing the project effectively and for maintaining transparency in how beneficiaries were chosen.

He added that the approach guarantees aid goes to the most vulnerable, improving their welfare and backing sustainable development across Rwanda.

He further characterised Qatar Charity as a reliable partner in humanitarian and development efforts.

The selection process involved Rwanda’s Ministry of Local Government together with the Mufti of the Republic of Rwanda, Sheikh Musa Sindayigana.

Such coordination made certain that aid went to the most vulnerable households, applying clear, open criteria that gave priority to those with the greatest needs.

Beneficiary Perspectives and Impact

On field visits, the delegation checked progress and talked with several recipients, who stressed how valuable the health insurance coverage from the programme is.

Recipients said they valued being able to use the scheme’s health insurance, noting that medical expenses had previously blocked them from getting needed treatment because of low incomes and high household costs.

The initiative shows Qatar’s Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs commitment to back sustainable development projects run by Qatar Charity and to boost health security for at-risk populations.

It also reflects solidarity and humanitarian cooperation, leading to an improved quality of life for thousands of beneficiaries and their families.
