On Wednesday, His Excellency Dr Ali bin Smaikh al-Marri, Minister of Labour, launched the fourth edition of the Career Fair hosted by Lusail University, which runs for two days.
Event Overview and Participation
More than sixty employers from government and private sectors took part, representing fields such as education, energy, industry, finance and business, together with charitable organisations and law firms.
The Ministry of Labour attended through its National Manpower Recruitment Department and the Qualifying and Skills Development Department, aiming to raise graduates’ awareness of specialisations that are in demand and to steer them toward career paths that match their academic qualifications and professional abilities.
These activities support the goals of the Nationalisation Plan and the National Strategy for an Effective and Highly Productive Workforce 2024‑2030, which seeks to create a pool of qualified and competitive national talent capable of contributing to the nation’s economic growth.
Ministry of Labour’s Role and Objectives
At the ministry’s pavilion, the Qualifying and Skills Development Department provided information on workshops, initiatives, programmes and training courses designed to prepare Qatari graduates and the children of Qatari women for employment.
It also directed students toward academic disciplines that satisfy labour‑market needs and strengthened their readiness to compete for jobs in key economic sectors.
Afrah al‑Athbah, Director of the National Manpower Recruitment Department, said: “the ministry’s participation in Lusail University’s Career Fair reflected its commitment to achieving nationalisation targets by aligning educational outcomes with labour market needs and guiding national talent towards promising specialisations and employment opportunities across various sectors.”
She added that this was in line with the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al‑Thani to increase Qataris’ participation in the labour market, invest in their capabilities and empower them to contribute effectively to national development.
She further noted that the Ministry’s participation aimed to familiarise students and graduates with the employment opportunities available in the labour market and enable them to explore different career pathways, helping them make career choices that matched their qualifications and aspirations.
She also pointed out that the ministry is keen to encourage students to benefit from its academic sponsorship programmes and summer training opportunities across various fields, which help develop capabilities, equip participants with necessary skills and enhance readiness to take up positions in the private sector.
University Perspective
Talila al‑Kuwari, Director of Student Life at Lusail University, stressed that the institution attaches particular importance to the Career Fair, underscoring its commitment to delivering a complete educational experience from enrolment through graduation while also opening professional opportunities for students and graduates.
She added that the University is committed to providing full support to participants to ensure the event’s success and the achievement of its objectives, and highlighted the importance of building bridges between the academic and professional sectors through education and communication.
She said: “This year’s Career Fair, held on 14 and 15 October 2026, featured a range of awareness activities on the labour market, including information on in‑demand specialisations and the skills required. CV‑writing workshops were also held alongside the fair to help students prepare professional CVs.”
She explained that the fair’s main objective was to provide a platform bringing students and graduates together with employers, opening up promising opportunities for employment and career development.
She stressed that it enables participating entities to identify young talent and attract promising candidates, while giving students and graduates the chance to understand labour‑market requirements, explore employment opportunities, build effective professional relationships and take part in direct interviews with recruiters, thereby enhancing their prospects of embarking on successful careers.
