Wholesale market surge
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – On Wednesday morning, October 14, 2026, the U.S. dollar registered a sharp upward push across Iraq’s wholesale exchanges, climbing toward the 167,000 dinar mark in early morning trading across Baghdad and Erbil.
According to market data, the wholesale currency hubs in the capital—principally the Al‑Kifah and Al‑Harithiya exchanges—recorded greenback rates of 167,000 Iraqi dinars per $100, up from 165,600 dinars logged during Tuesday morning sessions.
Retail and Erbil rates
Across Baghdad’s licensed retail exchange bureaus, retail selling rates rose to 167,500 dinars per $100 against purchase bids of 166,500 dinars.
In Erbil, the commercial capital of the Kurdistan Region, parallel counters mirrored the capital’s upward trajectory, with trading desks posting dollar cash selling quotes at 166,500 dinars per $100 and buying bids tightening to 166,400 dinars.

Analyst outlook and contextual factors
Economic researchers and market observers noted that the dollar’s appreciation represents an expected market recalibration in the wake of the Central Bank of Iraq’s recent pricing reset and ongoing supply‑demand mismatches in non‑registered commercial transfers.
Financial experts cautioned that current trading trends point to continued parallel rate increases, estimating that the exchange rate could test at least 175,000 dinars per $100 in the near term as liquidity adjustments continue to work through wholesale import networks.
The rapid depreciation of the dinar in parallel channels follows recent macroeconomic adjustments, with financial market analysts projecting sustained upward momentum toward the 175,000 threshold.
Both Baghdad and Erbil are key financial hubs in Iraq.
