Jordan’s Tourism Ministry Warns Public to Verify Travel Agency Licences
Published Updated By Arab Hub Post Staff
Jordan’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has urged the public to check the licensing and classification of any tourism or travel office before making bookings or purchasing travel programmes. Jordan’s tourism sector is a key contributor to the national economy and attracts visitors from across the Middle East.
Licensing Requirements
The ministry stressed that only duly licensed offices may operate and that all tourism professions and activities, including those conducted through websites, applications and digital platforms, must have the necessary approvals under the Tourism Law and its related regulations.
Legal Penalties for Violations
Article 9 of the Tourism Law states that the listed tourism professions may be practised only after obtaining the required approval. Article 21 sets out penalties for breaches, which may include imprisonment for no less than six months and no more than one year, a fine of no less than JD3,000 and no more than JD10,000, or both penalties, depending on the case.
Public Advice and Contact
The ministry again urged citizens to verify the licensing and classification of tourism offices before completing any booking or transferring money. It said inquiries can be made by contacting the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities at (06) 460 3360, highlighting the importance of awareness and prior verification to ensure a safe tourism experience and protect consumers’ rights.
