Libyan Minister Attends Kyoto Smart City Expo
According to the ministry’s announcement, Libya’s Tripoli-based Minister of Housing and Construction, Issam Al-Tamouni, attended the opening of the Kyoto Smart City Expo in Japan on 8-9 October, accompanied by Mr. Abu Bakr Misbah, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Savings and Real Estate Investment Bank, and several ministry advisors. The visit comes as Libya seeks to modernise its urban infrastructure amid ongoing reconstruction efforts.
Tour of Sustainable Construction Pavilions
The minister and his delegation walked through the exhibition halls to examine the latest smart-city and sustainable-development technologies, with a focus on solutions relevant to housing and urban development. They visited pavilions of firms specialising in eco-friendly building methods and the design of highly energy- and water-efficient structures that aim to cut operational emissions. Some exhibitors demonstrated technologies that can lower resource consumption by as much as seventy percent compared with conventional standards.
Discussions with Solar-Panel Manufacturers
The delegation also held talks with several specialised companies, including producers of solar panels that use cutting-edge technology. These innovations enable the manufacture of thinner, flexible panels that can be shaped into curved forms, widening their potential use in modern architecture and construction. The meetings explored possible cooperation with Japanese firms and the prospect of their entry into the Libyan market, agreeing to keep direct communication to study collaboration opportunities, while noting that progress depends on obtaining required approvals from Japanese authorities, given some companies’ reservations about the current situation.
Meeting with Libyan Ambassador to Japan
In an effort to strengthen bilateral ties, the minister met with Libya’s ambassador to Japan, Ahmed Al-Naas, in the presence of several embassy staff members. They discussed ways to create a favourable environment for expanding cooperation between the Ministry of Housing and Construction and Japanese enterprises, and looked at opening new partnership avenues in smart cities, modern construction technologies and sustainable development.
