Morocco’s Rank and Score in the 2026 Index
Morocco placed 47th out of 122 countries in the 2026 Global Hunger Index.
The country’s score of 9.0 out of 100 puts it in the low hunger bracket, according to the report.
How Morocco Compares to Regional and Global Averages
The kingdom’s result is lower than the West Asia and North Africa average of 12.5 and also below the worldwide average of 18.1.
Details of the Four Hunger Indicators
The index is produced jointly by Welthungerhilfe, the Institute for International Law of Peace and Armed Conflict (IFHV) and the Swiss organisation Helvetas.
It gauges hunger through four components: the share of undernourished people, child stunting, child wasting and mortality among children under five.
It estimates that 6.5 % of Morocco’s population is undernourished.
Among children under five, 13.7 % experience stunted growth, 2.7 % suffer from wasting, and the under‑five mortality rate is 1.6 %.
Over the last twenty years, stunting fell from 25.3 % in 2000 to 13.7 % in the latest data, while undernourishment rose from 5.8 % to 6.5 % over the same span.
Regional Scores and a Global Warning
In the West Asia and North Africa region, Syria posted the highest hunger score in 2026 at 31.5, followed by Libya at 12.9, Iraq at 11.9, Oman at 10.8 and Egypt at 10.5.
Kuwait, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates each recorded scores under 5.
Welthungerhilfe, the German aid organisation that co‑publishes the index, warned that global hunger is rising again after years of progress, because conflict, climate shocks and economic crises are undermining efforts to reduce food insecurity.
The organisation added that hunger levels have increased in 32 countries, while 57 nations are not expected to reach even the low hunger category by 2030.
