Libyan Exporters Call for Review of 2026 Export Ban

Libya’s exporters, gathered at the headquarters of the Libyan Export Development Authority (LEDA), issued a statement concerning the Minister of Economy and Trade’s blanket export ban under Decree No. 493 of 2026.

Regional context

Libya, which is seeking to rebuild its economy after years of instability, depends on export earnings from agriculture and food processing.

Impact on key sectors

In the statement they detailed the repercussions of the ban on the productive, agricultural and food‑processing sectors, and noted how it affects the contractual obligations of Libyan companies operating in foreign markets.

Call for reconsideration

The exporters stressed the need to support national productive industries and to preserve the competitiveness of Libyan goods abroad.

They urged the authorities to reconsider the decree and to take into account the views of those working in the export sector.

LEDA to discuss the ban

The Libyan Export Development Authority announced it will discuss the blanket export ban in its upcoming deliberations.
