Contract awarded for Duqm fisheries zone infrastructure
Oman’s Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) has granted a contract to develop roads and related infrastructure within the Fisheries Industries Zone located in Duqm.
Road network specifications
The scheme is intended to improve the zone’s preparedness to draw industrial investment and to supply road networks and services that support both current facilities and any future expansion, thereby aiding the growth of food‑processing activities and increasing the value derived from fisheries.
It comprises an internal road network stretching over 8.7 kilometres, which includes 7.3 kilometres of single‑lane carriageway and 1.4 kilometres of dual‑lane carriageway. Two roundabouts will be built, together with traffic signals and road markings, to facilitate access to industrial and service sites.
Utility and services works
In addition to the roadworks, the contract covers the installation of sewerage systems, potable‑water pipelines, irrigation channels, high‑voltage and low‑voltage electricity grids, street‑lighting arrangements and telecommunications conduits. The overall aim is to create an infrastructure capable of meeting the requirements of investment projects and facilities operating in the industrial zone.
