Published By Regional Desk
The Omani Youth Day ceremony, an annual event held on 26 October, took place on Monday under the patronage of HH Sayyid Bilarab bin Haitham Al Said, Minister of State and Governor of Muscat. The gathering was hosted at the Youth Centre’s headquarters in Muscat Governorate.
Theme and Ceremony Highlights
This year’s celebration was held under the theme “Azm” (Resolve), a concept that the organisers said reflects the will and ambition ingrained in the personality of Omani youth. According to the event’s messaging, young people draw from their land values of steadfastness and boldness, adopting these as guiding principles in their lives and choices as they set out to shape their own future. The theme also embodies the spirit of a generation that not only carries the legacy of its predecessors but is determined to build upon it, continuing the march of achievement in line with the Sultanate of Oman’s aspirations for the years ahead.
The ceremony began with a tour of the event experience and the Youth Centre’s facilities, during which HH Sayyid Bilarab met a number of accomplished and enterprising young people. This was followed by a speech delivered on behalf of the youth and a visual presentation that reviewed the trajectory of youth work in Oman over the past five years. The presentation highlighted the most prominent efforts and initiatives undertaken by the Youth Centre in this sector, including the announcement of the soft opening of the Centre’s branches in the governorates of Dhofar and Musandam.
Agreements and Partnerships
During the ceremony, seven agreements were signed with institutions from both the public and private sectors. One agreement with OQ Group provides funding worth OMR 20 million for the main branch of the Youth Centre in Muscat Governorate. This contribution is intended to develop an integrated environment that nurtures youth energy and creativity, enhances opportunities for qualification, innovation and entrepreneurship, and provides supportive spaces to transform ideas into initiatives and projects with sustainable impact.
A strategic partnership agreement was signed with the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel) and ETCO Space. An investment partnership agreement was also signed with Oman India Fertiliser Company (OMIFCO), and a logistical partnership agreement was signed with Al Mutamayaza Motors Company. In addition, the Youth Centre signed a memorandum of understanding with the Oman Oil Marketing Company to study investment opportunities for developing and investing in land belonging to the Centre.
Recognitions and Five-Year Anniversary
The ceremony also included a segment honouring a number of contributors and supporters of the youth sector from various entities. This year’s occasion coincided with the fifth anniversary of the Youth Centre’s opening. The Centre continues to implement programmes and initiatives aimed at developing youth skills and refining their capabilities in multiple fields, including innovation, technology and entrepreneurship. It also continues to provide an environment that stimulates creativity and initiative while strengthening partnerships with a range of institutions.
